Wyoming lifts the Green River voluntary catch-and-release closure Sept. 10

The Green River is back on the regular playbook. Game and Fish posted Sept. 10 that it had lifted the voluntary catch-and-release closure between Fontenelle Reservoir and Flaming Gorge, effective immediately. Staff had watched the reach since the heat advisory; cooler weather and a forecast cooling trend eased the immediate stress on trout.

The department still wants a pocket thermometer. If water approaches 70°F, pause catch-and-release for the day. Land fish fast, keep them wet, barbless if you can. The Oct. 1–Dec. 31 spawn closure from Fontenelle Dam downstream about a mile to the USGS gauge at Weeping Rocks is a separate, hard close for brown trout.

The Laramie Boomerang’s Sept. 10 regional report had the Laramie River low and clear — fish early or late, better flow at Wood’s Landing — and red-flag fire danger through Friday. Confirm the live WGFD heat page before you pound a skinny tailwater at noon.
