Anglers fund a Lake Superior brown-trout rescue: 120,000 fish to St. Croix Falls
Wisconsin’s Superior brown-trout year-class is not going in the lake as two-inch fish this fall. Dean Bortz’s Sept. 11 Outdoor News report says DNR budget cuts at the Les Voigt hatchery in Bayfield would have released the spring-hatched browns as 2- to 3-inch fingerlings in October. Friends of Wisconsin Fisheries anglers pushed back and paid to overwinter them instead.
