Buoy 10 hatchery coho bag goes to three on Sept. 12

Buoy 10 anglers get a third clipped coho. Northwest Sportsman reported Sept. 9 that ODFW’s Tucker Jones and WDFW’s Charlene Hurst approved the in-season change on a Compact call. Effective Saturday, Sept. 12, through the end of October, the daily bag is three hatchery coho from the mouth buoy upstream to the west end of Puget Island. Chinook remain closed there.

Staff said the coho fishery was under its unclipped-mortality expectation while handle stayed high. Mark rates were about two hatchery to one wild through the Sept. 2 Chinook close, closer to 50-50 since. Through Sept. 7, Buoy 10 estimates were 33,341 Chinook kept and 44,660 coho kept from about 108,700 angler trips. TAC bumped the Columbia mouth fall Chinook run to 657,000 (from 636,500).
