Texas mid-coast: Freeport-to-Matagorda trout and reds on the Sept. 11 Reel Report

Capt. David Dillman’s Sept. 11, 2026 Reel Report in the Galveston Daily News is a mid-coast trout-and-red week. Capt. Abby Webster (Freeport) had good speckled trout on live shrimp under popping corks along channel reefs and ledges, plus trout on Texas Lure Company Pink Lemonade on a 1/8-ounce jig. Redfish and black drum were in deeper guts on the low tide; back lakes still held decent numbers.

Matagorda’s Capt. Bink Grimes reported good trout wading ICW-adjacent reefs on topwater, better keeper reds on the incoming tide, and mixed trout and reds on the jetty. Capt. Mark Talasek said the surf was “on fire” for trout and redfish on live bait, with gigging flounder still really good — quality should improve once a front pushes off the coast.

TPWD had no saltwater weekly report for the week of Sept. 13 because of weather. Confirm current TPWD speckled trout, redfish, and flounder bags before you keep fish. Federal private red snapper off Texas was still listed open as of Aug. 4 (two fish, 16 inches); state waters stay four fish, 15 inches, year-round until TPWD says otherwise.
