SF Bay week: halibut on the flats, stripers at the Delta mouth

A Sept. 10, 2026 San Francisco Bay Area week report describes a late-summer pattern still holding: California halibut on the flats and channel edges, stripers feeding at the Delta mouth and in the South Bay, and the salmon fleet working offshore on the days season and weather allow.

Halibut from 8 to 20 pounds are showing on the Berkeley Flats, the Alameda Rock Wall, Marin around Paradise Cay, and Angel Island channel edges on moving tides. Stripers are on anchovies and shad around Carquinez and Benicia, and in the South Bay near the San Mateo and Dumbarton bridges. Rockfish and lingcod remain a Farallones and coastal-reef story for boats out of Half Moon Bay and Bodega; sturgeon reports are on the deeper edges of Suisun Bay.

The new moon this weekend brings big tides through the Gate. Bay water is in the low 60s; northwest afternoon breeze and morning coastal fog are the usual. Confirm current CDFW regulations before you keep fish — ocean salmon season, halibut size and bag, and the striped bass slot all have to be current on the day you fish.
