Cleveland Metroparks: first Rocky River steelhead of the fall, Sept. 3

Northeast Ohio’s steelhead clock ticked. Cleveland Metroparks’ Sept. 3, 2026 weekly report said the first steelhead of the fall had been landed: one by the Rocky River boat ramps, another that ran all the way to the Rocky River Nature Center ford. A reader photo showed a fish on a small Rooster Tail. Numbers are not yet worth a dedicated trip; more early fish should show at Edgewater, E. 55th, Wildwood, and the lower Rocky as nights cool.

Lake Erie boats are still on walleye and yellow perch. ODNR’s 2026–27 Erie sheet is six walleye at 15 inches (May 1, 2026–Feb. 28, 2027). Yellow perch bags stay zoned: 30 west, 10 central, 20 east. Ohio’s primary steelhead streams remain the Vermilion, Rocky, Chagrin, Grand, Ashtabula, and Conneaut.

The Metroparks Steelhead Expo is Sept. 26 at the Rocky River Nature Center. Confirm ODNR tributary rules before you keep a steelhead.
