New Mexico Sept. 10: Conchas walleye and bass, trout mixed on the mountain waters

New Mexico’s Sept. 10 Fishing Line is a two-speed week. At Conchas Lake, smallmouth were good on Ned rigs and curly-tail jigs, largemouth good on Nekko and Senko, and walleye very good on a bottom-bouncer and crawler harness. That is the warmwater story.

Trout was a mixed bag. Eagle Nest was slow to fair on PowerBait (Israel Quintana had a slow Sept. 6 day there). Lake Maloya was good. The Animas below Aztec was very good at 44.1 cfs on a gray/green Rooster Tail with PowerBait. The Jemez near the village ran 8.3 cfs and fished good. Trout Lakes and Bonito Lake notes from Sept. 3 were very good to fair-to-very-good. Coyote Creek was slow.

Eagle Nest Fly Shack’s Sept. 4 Enchanted Circle sheet listed 1,700 triploid rainbows above Questa on Sept. 1 and 400 in the Rio Costilla the same day. Confirm NMDOW special-trout bags on the San Juan quality water and the live weekly report before you keep a limit. Sept. 26–27 is National Hunting and Fishing Day (no license; other rules still apply).
