Mississippi red snapper reopened Labor Day weekend, then weekends only

Mississippi’s private red snapper season came back for Labor Day. Mississippi Sportsman and an MDMR release said territorial waters opened 12:01 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, through Monday, Sept. 7 (the extra holiday day), then Friday–Saturday–Sunday each week until the private recreational ACL is projected met. Bag is two fish, 16-inch minimum. The season closes or stays closed if the Gulf-wide quota is hit.

Private boats may fish out to 200 nautical miles. State for-hire boats stay in the nine-mile territorial sea south of the barrier islands. One angler per vessel per trip must report in Tails n’ Scales before landing. Every licensed angler on the boat needs a Mississippi Recreational Offshore Landing Permit.

NOAA’s September reef-fish calendar also matters here: greater amberjack Sept. 1–Oct. 13, gag grouper Sept. 1–30, gray triggerfish already open through Dec. 31. Confirm the live dmr.ms.gov/snapper page before you leave the harbor.
