DNR: lake trout very good off Rockport; Swan Bay salmon still thin

Northeast Michigan’s Lake Huron fleet is still more trout than kings. The DNR local report published Sept. 14, 2026 in the Alpena News says Alpena boats picked a few walleye in 20–30 feet near North Point and Sulphur Island, plus lake trout and a few Chinook in 70–120 feet straight out of Thunder Bay on flasher/Spin-N-Glo and spoons.

Rockport: walleye around Middle Island; lake trout very good in 80–120 feet; a few Chinook near False Presque Isle in 60–90 feet. Rogers City: salmon are staging off Swan Bay, but numbers are low and the bite is inconsistent — best in low light, 30–90 feet. Thunder Bay River is slow, with a few Chinook near the Ninth Street Bridge on glow spoons at first and last light.
