Louisiana private red snapper reopened Sept. 4–7, then closed again

Louisiana’s private red snapper season is not a summer-long open. LDWF closed it Aug. 9 on harvest projections, then used leftover quota for two four-day windows: Aug. 27–30 and Friday, Sept. 4, through Monday, Sept. 7 (Labor Day). The season closed again at 11:59 p.m. Sept. 7 until further notice.

LA Creel data cited 35,109 pounds remaining — about 4 percent of the 882,439-pound 2026 private recreational allocation. The reopen covered private boats and state-licensed charters in Louisiana state waters and federal waters off Louisiana. Federally permitted for-hire boats stay on NOAA’s federal calendar, not this emergency sheet.

If you ran that Labor Day weekend, you already used the last advertised window. Confirm LDWF and NOAA before you keep a snapper — another reopen is only if leftover pounds justify it.
