Iowa DNR: trout-stream trucks resume after the August heat pause

Iowa’s trout trucks are rolling again. The DNR report for the week of Sept. 10, 2026 (carried by KCHA) says highs in the 70s, streams at normal summer levels with excellent visibility, and “stocking all trout streams resumed after the summer heat pause.” Freshly stocked rainbows are rated excellent on worm, cheese, or dough; fly anglers are pointed at hoppers, midges, scuds, and caddis.

Northeast streams in Clayton, Dubuque, Delaware, and Jackson counties are good to excellent. Interior rivers are in shape for channel cats, smallmouth, walleye, and pike. The 2026 stream calendar stocks dozens of waters weekly or twice a month through September; October plants are unannounced. Dalton Pond (Jackson County) is off the program — the lease ended and the pond is closed to public fishing.
