Georgia WRD’s Sept. 11 report: Silver Lake PFA chewing, rivers still hot

Georgia DNR’s Wildlife Resources Division posted a Sept. 11, 2026 statewide report that is a different sheet from the Sept. 4 heat-and-Labor-Day-trout brief already on this desk. Silver Lake PFA has been good: dock lights holding big bluegill and crappie, bass in vegetation pockets on a Senko or dropshot, and early topwater frogs and buzzbaits along the pads. House Pond bluegill are 9 inches-plus on deep stumps, with hybrid stripers to about 4 pounds cruising the feeders. Cutoff Pond is closed for renovation and will reopen later as an all-female trophy bass pond — date TBD.

Big Lazer PFA is still in late-summer mode: surface about 82°F, down 9 inches, bass slow in the heat, bream good on wood. WRD says a fall cool-down should turn the bass on. The Chattahoochee and Flint remain hot — favor catfish and bream, and watch low-water hazards. Shoal bass should pick up as temps drop.

Walter F. George bass are fair in 15–20 feet on structure and current breaks (Ken Sturdivant). Crappie are on bright 1/8-ounce jigs in 10–15 feet. Lakepoint State Park has a fishing workshop Saturday, Sept. 26, 4–6 p.m. during Alligator Awareness Weekend. On Blackshear, DNR is running a tagged-crappie study — yellow tags, call 229.430.4256 — and a mayfly hatch is helping the bream; catfish are in 10–15 feet. Seminole’s early grass-line topwater and frogs have been fair. Matt Vogt won the Florida Bass Nation Kayak Series state championship there with 185.25 inches.
