Cody Morgan wins St. Johns BFL Super Tournament with 61-9

US FishingFlorida

Cody Morgan of Green Cove Springs, Florida, won the MLF Phoenix Bass Fishing League Super Tournament — the Gator Division finale — on the St. Johns River out of Palatka. He weighed 10 bass for 61 pounds 9 ounces over two days and cashed $3,920.

Morgan ran a shell-flats program. On Day 1 he started on a school he had been saving: first cast a 6-pounder, second cast a 9-7 on a Zara Spook and a wakebait, then he left fish to come back. Day 2 the school had mostly moved; with nine minutes left in a forward-facing sonar window he hovered a ChatterBait over a fish on the bottom and landed a 12-11, then ground out a limit on the same shell bar.

Danny Hinton of St. Cloud won the co-angler side with six bass, 17-12, and $1,810. Dylan Quilatan of Windermere locked up boater Angler of the Year at 1,345 points. The Gator Regional is Oct. 8–10 on Lake Eufaula.
