Florida Gulf red snapper and most snook regions open Sept. 1

Two Florida inshore/offshore clocks flipped on Sept. 1, 2026. FWC’s Gulf private-recreational red snapper fall season is open daily Sept. 1–Oct. 4, then weekends-only through early 2027 on a published calendar. That season is for private vessels in Florida Gulf state and federal waters, plus state-waters-only charter boats without a federal permit. It is not an Atlantic red snapper opening — FWC still lists the Atlantic EFP season as temporarily postponed.

The same date reopened snook harvest in all east-coast regions (Southeast, Indian River Lagoon, Northeast) through Dec. 14 at one fish, 28–32 inches, and in most west-coast regions (Panhandle, Big Bend, Tampa Bay, Sarasota Bay) through Nov. 30 at one fish, 28–33 inches. State and inland waters inside those regions are included.

Sign up for the State Reef Fish Survey before a Gulf snapper trip, and confirm the live FWC tables — Charlotte Harbor/southwest snook regions are not in that “most west-coast” list.
