Channel Islands boats stack yellowtail and calico on Sept. 10

Oxnard’s Channel Islands Sportfishing fleet had a busy midweek yellowtail and kelp-bass day. SoCal Fish Reports’ Sept. 10 boat counts show Speed Twin’s morning half-day (35 anglers) with 37 yellowtail and 24 bonito, Aloha Spirit’s full day (30 anglers) with 36 yellowtail and 25 calico, and Island Tak’s full day (nine anglers) with 19 yellowtail and 45 calico.

Graylight’s six-pack full day posted 26 yellowtail and five calico. Island Fox’s three-quarter day (20 anglers) mixed 27 yellowtail, 31 bonito, and 21 sand bass. Cobra’s full day (eight anglers) leaned bonito and bottomfish: 34 bonito, 15 calico, nine rockfish, plus sand bass, sheephead, and whitefish.

That is a lot of yellows for a Thursday. Recreational anglers running the same water should expect company around the usual island kelp and bait schools, and confirm current bag and size rules before they ice fish.
