Lower Sacramento trout on baetis as kings start rolling through town
The Lower Sacramento fished well this week. 530 Outfitters / Fly Fishing Specialties’ Sept. 9, 2026 report said flows have started to drop and were sitting around 7,000 cfs.
A short cold spell got baetis moving, and trout stacked in the flats — including quality fish that would eat small flies. The shop said bring your A-game and be ready to fish 5X. Once the sun returned, midday caddis and evening baetis showed, and bigger fish started feeding more consistently. Find the bugs and you find the trout.
Salmon are moving in after the rain. Fish pushed quickly on the weather and are showing in the lower stretches, including fish rolling through town. No redds or staging digs yet. The egg bite is coming.
