Lower Klamath adult Chinook quota is met; fishery flips to jacks below Weitchpec

The lower-river adult king quota is done. CDFW’s Sept. 11, 2026 release said recreational fall-run adult Chinook below the Highway 96 Bridge near Weitchpec would hit the 2026 allocation at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13. That shut adult Chinook on the main stem from that bridge to the Pacific mouth.

The spit at the mouth was already closed Sept. 2 for the rest of the calendar year. Below Weitchpec, jack Chinook 23 inches and under remain legal; any adult must go back immediately. Adult fishing is still open on the Klamath above Weitchpec and on the entire Trinity until those sections fill their own quotas.

Call the CDFW quota hotline at (800) 564-6479 before you keep a fish. A 2026 North Coast Salmon Report Card is required, and harvest and release have to be written in real time.
