Delta fly crossover: smallmouth, largemouth, and stripers in the same day

September on the Delta is a three-species problem, not a punch-mat story. Capt. Bryce Tedford’s notes from Sept. 9, posted Sept. 11 by Lost Coast Outfitters, say smallmouth, largemouth, and stripers are all available, and last week his boat found all three — sometimes in the same day. The hard part is picking a hunt.

His box: Clousers for stripers and largemouth on baitfish; large topwater frogs and baitfish flies for largemouth; light rods with size-6 poppers and light jigs for smallmouth. October and November striper dates are already full; a few December days were left when he wrote it.

This is a fly-guide crossover brief, not the earlier Delta punch-bite bass-mat report. Confirm CDFW inland bag and striped-bass rules before you keep fish.
